Cooperation Agreement with University of Sao Paulo (Brazil)

Aug. 24, 2010

On April 15, 2010, Meiji University concluded a cooperation agreement with the University of Sao Paulo.

Established in 1934 and boasting more than 80,000 students, the University of Sao Paulo is one of the largest and most prestigious higher education and research institutions not only in Brazil but in entire Latin America. Currently, the university is engaged in initiatives to enhance partnerships with universities in Japan and other Asian countries.

Plans for joint initiatives between Meiji University and the University of Sao Paulo have existed for some time now. For instance, Meiji University was presented with a proposal for a research program regarding joint Japan-Brazil research on development assistance, a concept created two years ago by the Study Centre on International Relations (Núcleo de Pesquisa em Relações Internacionais, NUPRI) affiliated with the School of Economy, Administration and Accounting of the University of Sao Paulo. The conclusion of the present cooperation agreement is expected to accelerate the realization of the above-mentioned research program, as well as to promote broad inter-university exchange in a variety of other fields.
