Oct. 09, 2015

On August 21, the Honorable Egidijus Meilunas, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to Japan, paid a courtesy visit to the Surugadai Campus. There, he conversed genially with Meiji University President Kenichi Fukumiya and Vice President Etsuko Katsu (in charge of international collaboration) on programs of academic interchange with Lithuanian universities and other matters in the President’s Office.

Ambassador Meilunas was born in 1964. After graduating from Lithuania’s Vilnius University, he served in the Press Office of the Government of Lithuania, the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania to the Republic of Poland (First Secretary), and Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania and other posts, before his appointment as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to Japan in 2012.

One of the purposes of the Ambassador’s visit was to deliver a letter addressed to Meiji University from Mykolas Romeris University (MRU), which desires to conclude an agreement with Meiji University. He stated that there were many students in Lithuania who were interested in Japanese culture and society, and that about 40 Lithuanians were studying at Japanese universities. In October 2012, Meiji University concluded an agreement for academic exchange with Lithuania’s Vytautas Magnus University (VMU).
