Dec. 04, 2015

On November 17, the Research Institute for the History of Global Arms Transfer (Director: Dr. Katsuhiko Yokoi, Professor, School of Commerce) within the Meiji University Research Cluster held a symposium to commemorate its establishment. Titled “Arms Control and Military Alliance: Past and Present," the symposium was held in Global Hall on the Surugadai Campus. At the symposium, four experts including Dr. Yokoi and Dr. Tomoji Onozuka, Professor of the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Economics, delivered reports from the standpoints of their respective fields of expertise and knowledge. In his report, Dr. Yokoi noted the prevailing problem as follows: “In the field of social sciences, there is extensive research on the global issues of population problems and environmental problems. In contrast, research on arms reduction and control is still relatively rare.” He went on to describe the factors that led to the Institute’s establishment and issues for subsequent research.
