In the men’s team table tennis event at the Games of the 31st Olympiad (the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics), Jun Mizutani (a 2013 graduate of the School of Political Science and Economics) and Koki Niwa (a fourth-year student in the School of Political Science and Economics) both won a silver medal.
This was an outstanding achievement, because the Japanese team had never before won a medal in the men’s team table tennis competition of the Olympics. It was the second medal of the Rio Olympics for Mizutani, who also won the bronze medal in the men’s singles table tennis event.
