On January 11, Yuto Nagatomo – a member of the Japan national football team who plays for the Internazionale Milano in Italy’s Serie A league (he also graduated from the School of Political Science and Economics in 2009 and was a member of the Meiji University Football Club) – took part in a talk event for Meiji University students on the Surugadai Campus. The event took place while Nagatomo took a short break back in Japan. It attracted about 900 Meiji University students, who absolutely filled the venue to capacity.

Nagatomo has been capped 100 times as a member of the Japan national team. Last year, he marked his 200th appearance for Inter Milan.

On the subject of the FIFA World Cup Russia (to be held this June), he voiced strong determination, commenting, “The big wound we received from our dismal defeats in the last Brazil World Cup can only be healed by making a good showing in the upcoming World Cup. I hope to contribute to our team’s victory.”

When asked by a student about his time at university and his life in Italy, he furnished an earnest reply while injecting some humor. He left the students with some words of encouragement based on his personal experience, as follows: “The friendships with fellow students and the resulting human network you build over your four years here will be assets for your future. I hope you will grow to follow your dreams and aspirations.”
