To all the people affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake and the Kumamoto Earthquake

Mar. 11, 2018

March 11 has come around again. Seven years have passed since the Great East Japan Earthquake that caused unprecedented disaster and the ensuing catastrophe at the Tokyo Electric Power Company’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station. In April 2016 the Kumamoto Earthquake did massive damage centered on Kumamoto Prefecture.

While any disaster-stricken area is taking steady steps toward revitalization, many people are still struggling with inconveniences and emotional scars that have not completely healed. We would like to express our condolences to all the people affected and those who are still living as evacuees or otherwise compelled to endure hardship.

Right after the Great East Japan Earthquake, Meiji University instituted the “Support Center for Earthquake Reconstruction.” It took action on tasks such as providing support to the people and districts affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake and the Kumamoto Earthquake for reconstruction and holding an on-campus photo exhibition. We would once again like to express our condolences and wish for revitalization by flying the school flags at half-staff.
