To everyone affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake and other natural disasters

Mar. 11, 2019

Eight years have passed since the Great East Japan Earthquake and the ensuing catastrophe at the Tokyo Electric Power Company’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station in 2011. After that, massive damage was caused by the Kumamoto Earthquake in April 2016, and in 2018 alone, the 2018 Japan floods and the 2018 Hokkaido Eastern Iburi Earthquake in September, etc. occurred. We would like to express our condolences to all the people affected and those who are still living as evacuees or are otherwise compelled to endure hardship.

Meiji University established the “Support Center for Earthquake Reconstruction” shortly after the 2011 disaster that brought about unprecedented damage, and has been working on various support activities. Moreover, in order to respond to successive disasters, we changed the Center’s name to the “Reconstruction Activities Support Center for Earthquakes and Other Natural Disasters.”

As March 11−the date instrumental in the Center’s establishment−has come around again, we would once again like to express our condolences and wish for reconstruction by flying the university flag at half-staff.
