International Conference “Ancient Japanese Studies at Crossroad IV”
The International Conference “Ancient Japanese Studies at Crossroad” was held at Global Front on the Surugadai Campus over the three-day period from October 31 through November 2, addressing the overall theme of island civilization and study of ancient Japan. Organized jointly by the Research Institute for Japanese Ancient Studies, a Meiji University research cluster, and the Graduate School of Arts and Letters, this conference welcoming researchers from five countries aimed to build a new form of ancient Japanese studies cutting across the three fields of history, literature, and archaeology, through mutual interaction between each of these fields.
 
In his keynote address before more than 100 participants from around the world on the first day of the conference, Prof. Takehiko Yoshimura of the School of Arts and Letters noted that in the research section the Research Institute for Japanese Ancient Studies had been chosen by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan (MEXT) for the Academic Frontier Promotion Project and the Support Program for the Strategic Research Foundation at Private Universities and in the educational section the Institute for the Ancient Studies of Japan had been chosen by MEXT for the Program for Enhancing Systematic Education in Graduate Schools and University’s strong resolve to be a top university educating graduates who can thrive on the global stage in the future as well, as a global education and research institution with an eye on the future.
