Embark on a journey of discovery: of old and new, tradition and innovation, art and culture.

Meiji University introduces a summer course on the aspects of Japan that the world has become enamored with -including anime, manga, music, fashion, tea-ceremony, architecture….- looking into their history as well as exploring their current social context, and ultimately pondering the future of Japan's position in a globalizing world.

Basic Information

Date: July 25 (Mon) - August 5 (Fri), 2011
Venue: Tokyo and Kyoto
Fee: 150,000 yen

**The amount includes tuition fee, and transportation and hotel for the Kyoto trip.

**Airfare and travel expenses in and outside of Japan except for the above mentioned, insurance, meals, and other living expenses are NOT included.

Eligibility: Applicants from abroad as well as foreign residents in Japan are eligible to apply. Applicants must be 18 years or older. Number of participants is approximately 20.
Accommodation: Accommodation for participants can be arranged by Meiji University if required.

Course Schedule

The Meiji University Cool Japan Summer Program 2011 is a series of lectures, workshops and field trips on a wide variety of subjects relating to Japan's contemporary image. In this program, we will explore and contextualize these disparate phenomena to create a clearer image of "Japan" in today's global society. We invite you to discuss many issues of "Japan" with some of the leading researchers in the fields of humanities and social sciences, and hope to spread a wider understanding of Japanese creativity and Japan’s own attitudes towards it.

-The application process is as follows;

STEP 1: Online Registration

STEP 2: Announcement of Application Result
You will receive notification of the acceptance or rejection of your enrollment in the program by the end of April, 2011. To accepted applicants, Meiji Univ. will indicate the manner of payment for the program fees. Please be advised that credit-card payment processing should be available by the end of May, 2011.

Cancellation Policy

**please be advised that once your application is accepted, the following cancellation policy will apply.
Meiji University needs to be notified in writing by:
-31 May, 2011 (Tue) for 100% refund of program fees
-30 Jun, 2011 (Thu) for 50% refund of program fees
-16 Jul, 2011 (Fri) for 20% refund of program fees
-The day after the program starts, or in case you cancel without any notice to Meiji Univ. there will be no refund of program fees
**Please note that the handling charge portion of the fees will not be refunded.
