Meiji University is hosting a summer course on the aspects of Japan that the world has become enamored of - from anime, manga, music and fashion, to tea-ceremony and sushi! Look into their history while exploring the current social context and its future possibilities.

Basic Information

Place Tokyo and Kyoto
Program Hours 60 hours in total
(Lectures 33hrs, Field trips 21hrs, Workshops 6hrs)
Participants Applicants from abroad as well as foreign residents in Japan are eligible to apply.
Applicants must be 18 years old or older.
Maximum-number of participants: 20
Program Fee 150,000 yen (special “early-bird” price of 142,500 yen for applications submitted before Feb 29).
<This includes tuition fees, transportation and hotel for Kyoto trip. Accommodation in Tokyo is not included.>
Accommodation Accommodation in Tokyo can be arranged upon request
(the cost is not included in the program fee).
Certificate Participants will be graded on their attendance, assignments, and final presentation. A certificate will be given upon successful completion of the program.

Course Schedule

The Meiji University Cool Japan Summer Program 2012 is a series of lectures, workshops and field trips on a wide variety of subjects relating to Japan's contemporary image. In this program, we will explore and contextualize these disparate phenomena to create a clearer image of "Japan" in today’s global society. We invite you to discuss many issues of "Japan" with some of the leading researchers in the fields of humanities and social sciences, including lecturers from the professional business field. Through this course, you can acquire a broader understanding of Japanese culture, as well as its creativity and potential.

Mar 1 (Thu) – Mar 31 (Sat)
Early Bird discount (¥142,500)
Regular price (¥150,000)

The application process is as follows;

STEP 1:
Application closed. Thank you very much for your application.
STEP 2:
Announcement of Application Results (End of April)
Screening will be conducted if the number of applicants exceeds the maximum number.
STEP 3:
Payment of Program Fee (May)
Please be advised that payment will be accepted by credit-card.
Further details will be given to successful applicants by the end of April.

Cancellation Policy

Please be advised that once your application is accepted, the following cancellation policy will be applied.
Notify Meiji University in writing by:

  • May 31, 2012 (Thu) for 100% refund of program fees
  • Jun 30, 2012 (Sat) for 50% refund of program fees
  • Jul 7, 2012 (Sat) for 20% refund of program fees

There will be no refund of program fees once the program starts, or in case you cancel without any notice to Meiji Univ.

Handling charges will not be refunded.
