Japanese Language Education For Exchange Studetns

※If you wish to learn Japanese Language after your arrival, please take the Online Test of Meiji University
Who should take the test? Applicants who cannot submit a Japanese Language Proficiency Test Certificate (for those who have passed a level other than N1 to N5 on a test)

2. 【How to Apply】

Application Requirements

・Be a student at one of Meiji University's partner institutions.
・2nd year and higher in undergraduate level are eligible to apply
・English Proficiency: TOEFL iBT 61 and above, or its equivalent level
(if there are requirements about language ability on the MOU, priority is given to the MOU)
・Japanese Proficiency: Japanese Proficiency Level Test N3 and above, or its equivalent level
(if there are requirements about language ability on the MOU, priority is given to the MOU)
・GPA: no requirement
・Nationality: no restriction

・Health Report (use a standard form of Meiji University)
・Housing Request (use a standard form of Meiji University)
・A copy of your English Language Proficiency Test Certificate
(If English is not your first language and want to take English classes)
・A copy of your Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) Certificate (If you have)
・Academic Transcript
・Nomination Letter (Dean of your home department to Dean of the School of Political Science and Economics)
・Statament of Intent (free format,1,000-2,000 Japanese or English characters)
・Study Plan (free format, 1,000-2,000 Japanese or English characters)
・Application for the Certificate of Eligibility (use a designated form)
・Statement of Financial Responsibility (use a standard form of Meiji University)
・Documentation which shows the proof that the payment amount indicated on the Application for Certificate of Eligibility.
It has to be written in English or Japanese. (Must submit either of the following)
(1) A bank balance certificate or copy of the applicant's account bankbook
(2) A bank balance certificate or copy of the bankbook for the bank account of the person responsible for payment
(3) An income certificate of the person responsible for payment
(4) Certificate of scholarship funds received. (Disbursement period must correspond to duration of study abroad at Meiji.)
・A copy of your passport
・2 pcs of ID photos (3 cm x 5 cm)

Application Deadline Exchanging from April (Spring term) October.1st in the year before of exchange
Exchanging from September (Fall term) March.1st in the same year of exchange

※ If you expect to graduate from your home university as soon as you go back, please confirm "Issuance dates of your academic transcript at Meiji University", before you apply.
