Japanese Language Education For Exchange Studetns

※If you wish to learn Japanese Language after your arrival, please take the Online Test of Meiji University
Who should take the test? Applicants who cannot submit a Japanese Language Proficiency Test Certificate (for those who have passed a level other than N1 to N5 on a test)

2. 【How to Apply】

■Application Requirements

・Be a student at one of Meiji SPSE’s partner institutions.
・2nd year or higher are eligible to apply
・English Proficiency or Japanese Proficiency
 English Proficiency: TOEFL iBT 61 or above, or its equivalent level
 Japanese Proficiency: Japanese Proficiency Level Test N3 or above, or its equivalent level
* if there are requirements about language ability on the MOU, priority is given to the MOU
* The tests must be taken within 2 years before the day when you submit application materials.
・GPA: no requirement
・Nationality: no restriction

■Application Procedures (There are 3 steps to apply for this exchange program)

Step 1 Please submit your Online Application

<Application Period> From February.1, 2018 to March.1, 2018 (in Japan time)

Step 2 Please send the following documents by Email
(1) Application for the Certificate of Eligibility【Designated Form】
(2) Statement of Financial Responsibility【Designated Form】
(3) Documentation which shows the proof of the payment amount indicated on the “(1)Application for Certificate of Eligibility”. (It has to be written in English or Japanese only)
・A bank balance certificate or a copy of the bankbook for the bank account of the person responsible for the payment
・An income certificate of the person responsible for the payment
・Certificate of scholarship funds (if any). (Disbursement period must correspond to the duration of exchange study)

***You will be required to send originals by international registered a irmail, after the SPSE office confirmed these three documents above***

Step 3 Please send the following materials by international registered airmail within the application deadline

1. Signature of the Applicant and the Exchange Student Program Coordinator【Designated Form】
2. Nomination Letter (from Dean of your home department to Dean of the SPSE)
3. Study Plan【Designated Form】
4. A copy of your English Language Proficiency Test Certificate or Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) Certificate
5. The latest Academic Transcript which is written in English
6. Housing Request【Designated Form】
7. Statement of Financial Responsibility
→The original document which the SPSE office confirmed at Step 2
8. Documentation which shows the proof of the payment amount indicated on the Application for Certificate of Eligibility
→The original document which the SPSE office confirmed at Step 2
9. A copy of your passport
10. 2 pcs of ID photos (4 x 3cm)

Application Deadline


Application Deadline Exchanging from April (Spring term) October.1st in the year before of exchange
Exchanging from September (Fall term) March.1st in the same year of exchange
