School of Global Japanese Studies

Curriculum

The School of Global Japanese Studies allows students to engage with contemporary Japan regardless of their previous experience. An English Track is offered especially for those with limited or no Japanese language proficiency. This allows many courses to be taken in an English language medium and provides various levels of Japanese language tuition alongside the core curriculum. For all students, the four-year degree program begins with broad-based General Studies courses, taught in English for students in the English Track. Students can then choose from more advanced courses under program s in Global Japanese Studies’ Specialties. In addition to the formal curriculum, student club activities, field trips and internships ensure that all students develop a lasting interpersonal network and a broader view on life and work in Japan. By graduation, students are not only fully proficient in Japanese but also true “Japan experts” capable of pursuing careers within Japan or as key intermediaries between Japan and other nations.
