Semester-long Study Abroad Program and Intensive English Program
Study abroad programs are a vital part of the curriculum at the School of Global Japanese Studies as it is our mission to promote international exchange. We currently offer two programs: the Semester Study Abroad Program and the Intensive English Program.
In the Semester-long Study Abroad Program, students spend between four and six months in their final semester of the second year at one of our partner universities. There they take regular lectures with the local students and can earn credits. Since these credits are recognized by the School of Global Japanese School, this means the students can graduate in the usual four year period.
In FY2011 a total of 22 students will go abroad to the University of Oregon, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, the State University of New York at New Paltz, the University of Alabama, and the University of Oxford. Additionally, 38 students will participate in a unique overseas internship program held jointly with the Florida State University and Walt Disney World. From this fiscal year, a new overseas study semester program at the Florida State University has begun and applicants can participate in a six-month internship from January to July at Walt Disney World in addition to the official overseas study program.
An overseas language program is held for about four weeks during the summer vacation at Hertford College at the University of Oxford, the College of Staten Island at the City University of New York, and the University of Oregon. About 50 students participate in this program every year.
