講演内容紹介:

Since Prime Minister Shinzo ABE decided to visit Pearl Harbor on Dec. 26 and 27, Hawaii has drawn a growing attention in Japan. On the other hand, how is Hawaii positioned in U.S. Foreign Policy?
The headquarter of the United States Pacific Command is in Hawaii. It is the forefront of the US’ security mission in the Asian Pacific region. Right now the biggest concern regarding the security of the Asian Pacific region, is the strengthening of China’s maritime force and their activities, which consequently cause tension between China and its neighboring countries. It is believed that China’s goal is to push the US out of the west side of the Pacific and to lower the presence of the US in Asia. Because of such military and diplomatic concerns, the strategic importance of Hawaii to the US is more worth noting than ever. In this seminar, Hawaii will be discussed from the military and diplomatic aspects as above.
