Oct. 13, 2010

On July 29, 2010, Meiji University concluded a cooperation agreement with the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).

UNAM is one of Mexico’s leading and most prestigious academic institutions. Founded in 1551 under the name Royal and Pontifical University of Mexico, it is the second oldest university on the American continent. UNAM is also one of the largest universities in Latin America, and boasts the highest position as a Latin American university and the second highest position as a university in the Spanish-speaking world in the Times Higher Education’s QS World University Rankings 2009. Seven presidents (five of Mexico and two of other countries) are among the graduates of UNAM which is also the only university in Mexico with three Nobel Laureates among its former students.

The present agreement constitutes the first cooperation agreement between Meiji University and a Mexican university, and is expected to promote various exchanges and partnerships with local research institutions.
