Message from President and Vice President International for Partner Institutions

Dear Partner Institutions:
We are very grateful for the cooperation we have received from you and your colleagues over the years.
As you know, Japan is facing an unprecedented crisis at present. Thousands of human lives were lost in the enormous earthquake and tsunamis on March 11, 2011. We feel heartbreaking grief that one of our students was among the dead.
Though we have had to also overcome additional difficulties such as those at one of our nuclear power facilities, as well as the aftershocks of the earthquake, the functions of the metropolitan capital district have mostly recovered and are operating as usual. Some of our university facilities also suffered minor damage from the earthquake but we have already restored them through our own efforts.
We would like once again to express our deepest appreciation upon having received a truly tremendous outpouring of welcome assistance from around the world. We can only hope that all the people in Japan will be able to return to a normal life. Meiji University has made it one of our missions to unflinchingly deal with these difficult challenges.
The new academic year will begin this week with the various Schools conducting orientations for incoming and continuing students. Classes will commence on May 2nd at Meiji. We will also have exchange programs with our international partners as usual. (We are offering special support to international students.)
We at Meiji University will make every effort to maintain academic relationships with our partners around the world as we focus our earnest efforts on restoring the nation.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all that you have done for our organization and hope that you will continue to favor us with your generous support.
