In October 2013, a student suffered a cardiopulmonary arrest during a physical education class at the Izumi Campus.  The student's life was saved thanks to the magnificent teamwork by Tomochika Eto, Hanajo Ito, and Tsuyoshi Momose, who used an automated external defibrillator, applied the chest compression technique (heart massage), and immediately called an ambulance.  Each of the three was presented with a certificate of thanks by Shigeru Asami, Chief of the Suginami Fire Department, and Dr. Kenichi Fukumiya, President of Meiji University.
