Apr. 06, 2017

On March 3, H. E. Ms. Faalavaau Perina Jacqueline SILA-TUALAULELEI, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Independent State of Samoa to Japan, visited the Surugadai Campus for a discussion with Meiji University personnel regarding sports-related exchange focusing on rugby.
Located in the South Pacific, Samoa has an area of 2,830 square kilometers (about 1.3 times larger than Tokyo) and a population of about 190,000 people. Rugby is popular there as the national sport.
In his remarks, President Keiichiro Tsuchiya mentioned the Rugby World Cup to be held in Japan in 2019 (the first ever to be held in Asia) and said he wanted to deepen exchange with Samoa through the Rugby Club.
