On June 17, Meiji University Baseball Club beat Bukkyo University (a member of the Keiji Universities Baseball League) 6-1 in the final of the 68th All Japan University Baseball Championship, impressively taking home the winning title for the first time in 38 tournaments at Meiji Jingu Stadium.
In this championship, 27 universities that claimed victory in leagues across the country play in the tournament. Meiji University entered the tournament as a seed and a representative of Tokyo Big 6 Baseball League. Meiji University beat Fukui University of Technology (a member of the Hokuriku Universities Baseball League) in the first game (second round), Toyo University (a member of the Tohto University Baseball League) in the third round, Tokyo University of Agriculture Hokkaido-Okhotsk (a member of the Hokkaido Universities Baseball League) in the semi-final to advance to the final.
