Meiji University Athletic Association Skating Club’s Wakaba Higuchi (freshman in the School of Commerce) took second place in the women’s competition at the Japan Figure Skating Championships 2019, which were held at Yoyogi National Gymnasium (Shibuya City, Tokyo) on December 18-22.

Higuchi scored 138.51 in the free program on December 21 with an emotionally expressive, yet calmly executed performance that took her from fourth place after the short program into second place with an overall score of 206.61 points. It was her first podium finish in three years.

In light of this result, Higuchi has been selected to represent Japan in the Four Continents Figure Skating Championships, which open in Seoul, South Korea on February 4 and in the World Figure Skating Championships, which begin on March 16 in Montreal, Canada.
