明治大学の創立者 明治大学付属明治高等学校・ 明治中学校 校長 　本日、当校は創立100周年祭を挙行させて頂くこととなりました。 その準備に要すること、三年余となりますが、その間、大学・付属他、 多くのご関係の方々から賜りました絶大なご支援、ご協力に、心より 感謝申し上げます。有難うございました。 　この慶事を祝うに当り、当校は実に様々な願いと祈りをこめさせて 頂きました。これを一言で申せば、本日の式典は、単に創立100周 年の祝い事にはあらず。向こう100年を見据えた、活力と魅力あふ れる学校創りの契機としたい、と願うものであります。しかもこの願い を、「世界へ―世界に飛び出し『己』を知ろう―」という一語の中に凝 縮いたしました。 　すでにご案内のとおり、当校の建学の精神は「質実剛健」、「独立 自治」であります。当校のかような教育理念に対しまして、100年の 歳月を経て、今ここに新たな意味、すなわち、世界と連帯し、より健 全な人類社会の建設に貢献しうる、そうした人格の育成という願いが そえられたのであります。 　この願い、祈りを現実のものとするために、当校はこれまで、短期 的、中長期的な観点から多様な企画、施策を立案し、そのいくつか は既に実現されております（これらについては、本誌掲載の事業計画 一覧をご覧頂ければと存じます）。そして、そのような事業プランの策 定、推進、その実行に際しまして、私共を導き、鼓舞して下さったの は、やはり本校創立者岸本辰雄先生、初代校長鵜澤総明先生はじ めとする先人の方々の理念と情熱、献身と実行力でありました。かつ は、先生方のかかるご努力のゆえに、当校は今日の発展に繋げられ たという事実であります。こうして、私共は、過去に学び明日を開くこ との意味を、この度もまた、深く教えられたのであります。 　であればこそ、本日の式典は、まずもってかかる先人への感謝の 場でありたい。さらに、そこから学ぶべきことを学びとり、当校飛躍の 糧としたいと願っております。 　末尾ながら、本日、本式典に態々お運び頂き、私共と共に、本校 100周年祭を祝して下さいました皆様方には、主催者の一人として、 ここに衷心より御礼申しあげます。 On behalf of Meiji University, I would like to thank our many guests, some who are joining us from abroad for this ceremony commemorating the 100th anniversary of our foundation. I would also like to express my deepest appreciation to those involved in the preparation of this event for their cooperation. As you know, the key concept of our anniversary event is “Into the world . venture into the world and find yourself .”. Being an affiliated school to Meiji University, we have upheld our founding spirit,“ Simplicity and Fortitude,”“ Independence and Self-government,” and produced many unique students who later play leading roles for their university. After 100 years, our founding spirit, unwavering, is fully reflected in our school ’s education, and will continue to be passed on for generations to come. Human beings in the 21st century must become global human resources, proud of their own country, yet capable of overcoming borders, different languages and cultures to communicate with anyone. We consider it our mission to educate our students to shine brightly and work actively on the world stage, armed with strong individual characters developed during their“ Meiji days,” and will continue to exert our fullest efforts to improve and enhance our educational environment.
