Autonomous Mobile Systems Laboratory

The main research theme of the Autonomous Mobile Systems Laboratory is to creating practical mobile robots which could be used on the hazardous place, e.g., radiation monitoring system for nuclear power plants, environmental monitoring system for volcanoes, and planetary explorer in space. We participated in the development project of an asteroid surface explorer robot “MINERVA” which is on the spacecraft “HAYABUSA.” Auto-piloting technology for mobile robots moving in the city area with many people is also a target of the research.
In order to create robots above, we need to have knowledge in wide area not only mechanical engineering, but also energy control, electric and electronic circuitry, computer and software engineering, and mathematics and physics. We are doing research with these advanced technologies for realizing the robots that can move in the real world.
