A Global Perspective and Solid Linguistic Ability Cultivated in Japan

Cultivating a New Perspective through Comparing Japan with Other Countries

_Interviewer You all seem to have chosen the School of Global Japanese Studies because you can study many different areas of Japan. Having enrolled, what are you actually studying now?

Kwon I like movies, so I’m taking a course on film history. We look at Hitchcock films, but it’s important to watch foreign masterpieces so as to compare them with Japanese films. By learning about the world, we can look at Japan.

Liu I agree. In one of my courses, we’re comparing Japan’s social system with that of Sweden, and I’ve learned many new ideas. For that reason, since coming to Japan my interest in my own country has increased. In the future, I’d like to take the good aspects of Japan back with me to my country.

Eliza I’m interested in art and fashion. Of course, I’m also interested in Japanese culture, which I saw in TV dramas. The school enables me to study various things from not only a cultural but also a business perspective. Next year, I’d like to learn about the art business and the fashion business.

Kudo I study martial arts. My tutor is highly qualified in martial arts, and he provides various ways of looking at things that you’d not get by just reading books. His perspective is one that only a martial arts expert could have, and I’ve realized that there are different ways to see the world. By adopting a new outlook, I hope to be more flexible in dealing with cultural differences.
