Meiji University selected as one of the universities to join the Global 30 group in 2010 ( 2009.7.3 )

Meiji University has been successful in its application to join the Global 30 group, an initiative set up by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) to promote internationalization in Japanese universities. The project will make Japanese universities more competitive internationally, and nurture individuals who will be successful on the global stage. Funding for the Global 30 initiative is set to continue for a period of five years under the 2008 policy on economic and financial reforms, and it is planned to have an international exchange of some 300,000 students between the 30 selected universities, thus paving the way for a globalized system of universities.
During the application process, of all Japan’s 750 public and private universities, the ones which were especially favored were those which already accepted over 300 foreign exchange students each year and which already had a solid international base. Ultimately, thirteen Japanese universities, including Meiji University, were selected to join the Global 30 group.
In order to promote the Global 30 initiative, in October 2009 the University President set up and took charge of the Organization for International Academic Collaboration, comprising the Headquarters of International Academic Collaboration, the International Student Exchange Center and the Japanese Language Education Center, in order to set up a framework which would increase internationalization across the entire university.

Our University has earned a place in the Global 30 group

Meiji University was recently selected as one of the universities which will form a basis for internationalization

The internationalization framework of Meiji University is known as the Global Common Program. The Global Common Program aims to act as a place where we can live in common with the rest of the world, contribute to the world, bear the responsibilities of global citizens and where people from all over the world can gather and talk. I believe that as a base for internationalization Meiji University can teach the world about the charm of Japan and the unique qualities of this university, as well as welcome the many foreign students who we hope will study here. I am also sure that at the same time it will act as an opportunity for the Japanese students at Meiji University to broaden their horizons.

We are fortunate indeed to have been selected as a member of the Global 30 group, and in order to cultivate graduates who will make an international contribution we are thinking strategically in how we will advance. I would like to offer my sincere gratitude to all of those, both at Meiji University and outside too, who have supported and worked ceaselessly for this University.
