1What made you decide to come to Japan and why did you choose Meiji University?

Devyn Mackenzie Wilson

I was looking for a school in Japan where I could study in English, since my Japanese was not yet up to University level. Meiji had the School of Global Japanese Studies, which offered classes on exactly what I was interested in: Japanese Language and Culture. The choice was simple.

2What surprised you most about Meiji University?

The size of the school and number of people. There are three (soon to be four) campuses, and each class has at least 60 students in it. That is way more than I expected.

3Where is your favorite place in Meiji University?

I enjoy the International Lounge. Anyone can go there, international student or Japanese student, so you can meet people from all over Japan and all over the world. It is a great place to relax and make new friends.

4What are your dreams for the future?

In the future I hope to be an elementary school teacher. I think that passing on knowledge to younger generations and inspiring a love of learning is the most valuable thing I can do.

5What is your favorite "KANJI" ?

楽('RAKU' or 'TANOSHII'). The kanji image itself looks like it is having fun, and I enjoy the meaning, 'relaxed' and 'fun'. I hope my life can be like that.

6What is your favorite Japanese word?

'tashikani' (確かに!) is a very useful word, which does not translate well into English. I wish we had a word like that.
