To students and their families

[Important Notice]

Continuation of online classes during Spring Semester S2 in FY 2020 and change of methods for conducting classes in Spring Semester Final Examination

In light of the growing impact of the new coronavirus infection in Japan, we have already announced that priority will be given to ensuring the health and safety of students in conducting classes in Spring Semester in FY 2020 in an online format until June 17 (S1 Period).
Since then, although the number of patients infected in the Tokyo metropolitan area has been on a decreasing trend, we have decided that it is necessary to continue efforts to prevent the spread of infection within universities, and have made the following two decisions.

1.Continue conducting online classes during Spring Semester S2

Following the Spring Semester S1 period, it was decided that classes would continue in the S2 period from June 18 to July 29 in principle through an online format.
If the "Meiji University Activity Restriction Guidelines" for preventing the spread of the new coronavirus infection is lowered to Level 2 or lower during the online class, face-to-face classes may be started based on the "Scope of Face-to-Face Classes and Our Approach to Face-to-Face Classes" shown below.
In that case, we will inform you again at least two weeks before the face-to-face class starts.

<Scope of Face-to-Face Classes and Our Approach to Face-to-Face Classes>

Scope of Classes Subject to Face-to-Face Classes
"Classes by Graduate School Professional Graduate School" "Seminar subjects in the faculty" "experimental and practical subjects"

Our Approach to the Start of Face-to-Face Classes
(1)When deciding which class to start face-to-face, the decision will be made based on the individual circumstances of the teacher in charge of the class and the students taking the class within the scope of the subject class.
(2)Even if face-to-face classes are to be started, face-to-face classes will be carried out in a flexible manner so that they will not be run on the premise of going to school, taking into account the individual circumstances of the students taking the classes, and giving due consideration to students who wish to refrain from going to school through measures such as providing online class delivery in addition to face-to-face classes.
(3)When we start face-to-face classes, we will implement them after taking sufficient measures to prevent infection in the school.

2.Final Examination Spring Semester implementation changes

In line with the decision to continue conducting online classes through the Spring Semester, the Government of Japan also decided to "No face-to-face written examinations" for Final Examination Spring Semester, which had been scheduled from July 30 to August 6.
As a result of this decision, classes may impose "Alternative to Final Examination trials or challenges".

As a result of the above changes, there may be changes in the class plan of each class and grading system. The details of these changes to the Syllabus will be announced by the teachers in charge of each class to the students through the Oh-o! Meiji System by early June.

Please refer to the attached file at the end of this sentence for the details of the Academic Calendar change.

I understand that the role of universities is to meet with students and prepare them for various educational opportunities. However, I will continue to make efforts to minimize the risk of infection and ensure their health and safety, and to create an environment where students can study with peace of mind.
We look forward to your understanding of this decision.
