Features of the Entrance Examination

We administer the entrance examination for the program for those without prior legal education or experience with emphasis on potential and diversity, and the entrance examination for the program for those with prior legal education or similar experience with emphasis on proficiency in basic elements of jurisprudence.

The entrance examination for the program for those without prior legal education or experience includes written examinations (essay writing) which require no legal knowledge. In this examination, skills in legal interpretation or knowledge of judicial precedents is not examined, but legal sense, sensitivity to human rights and ability to think logically are examined.

The entrance examination for the program for those with prior legal education or similar experience examines basic abilities in jurisprudence and the ability to structure logic, by means of essay examinations that consist either of three subjects, which are Constitution, Civil Code and Penal Code, or of five subjects, which are the above three subjects and two optional subjects selected from among Administrative Law, Commercial Code, the Code of Civil Procedure and the Code of Criminal Procedure.

In both courses, we evaluate each applicant’s academic achievements, social activities, qualifications of various kinds, and qualities, motivation and potential as a legal professional by means of document screening.

Each applicant may apply for both courses in parallel.
