- This is an introduction to Global Japanese Studies. First, the issues and methodology of the discipline are presented from the perspectives of cultural studies and the social sciences. This is then followed by an analysis of the “Cool Japan” phenomenon, especially in terms of the socio-economic system. For this purpose, we will review the characteristics of socio-economics and corporate management in Japan. We will also focus on the role of Japan in relation to ecological sustainability and the formation of an economic community beyond its borders.

- This class will review Japan’s development especially from the modern period to the present day. The class will begin by considering the opening of the ports at the end of the Edo period and the Meiji Restoration. This will then be followed by an analysis of key points in recent history such as the Sino-Japanese War, the Taisho democracy, the Asia Pacific War, the oil crisis, and the end of Cold War. We will also examine relationships with Europe, the U.S. and Asian nations in each period. Historical events will be analyzed in terms of political, social and economic factors in order to highlight the achievements of contemporary Japan.
- "Sports and Physical Training A & B" Professor NAGAO Susumu
- One of the purposes of the School of Global Japanese Studies is to foster students who will be able to function effectively in the global society. To achieve this goal, it is necessary for people to be aware of their own physical and mental condition, be fit, and be able to work actively. In section A, we will learn physical conditioning through practicing a variety of sports. In section B, the focus is on learning the characteristics of Japanese-style physical culture through the practice of budo, Japanese martial arts.
