Exchange Student Program

2026 Academic Year Student Exchange Program

All application materials must be submitted to Meiji University by the exchange student program coordinator of your home university to arrive by the due date. 
The following information is provided in the Fact Sheet(JPN)(ENG).

-Japanese language classes while at Meiji 
-Classes offered in English- Students do not need to have Japanese language proficiency while at Meiji.

  6. Certificate of Health
    • Must be completed by a doctor. Due to the School Health Act in Japan and our School Clinic's Policy, taking X-ray tests before international students' arrival is mandatory. Please ask your doctor to fill out all sections without blanks.
  7. Study Plan for Undergraduate school
    • Applicants to Graduate School do NOT need to submit a Study Plan. Before stating your Study Plan, please carefully refer to the syllabus of courses hosted by your preferred School by referring to "10. How to syllabus" below. Since the details of classes condutced in the 2026AY are to be finalized in late March 2026, we hope you can state it based on the information in the 2025AY.
  8. Research Plan for Graduate school
    • Applicants to Undergraduate School do NOT need to submit a Research Plan. Before stating your Research Plan, please carefully refer to the syllabus of courses hosted by your preferred School by referring to "10. How to syllabus" below. Since the details of classes condutced in the 2026AY are to be finalized in late March 2026, we hope you can state it based on the information in the 2025AY.
  9. ID photo guide (For reference)
    • ID photo has to be taken within 3 months before submitting. Especially, the same photo as the one in your passport is sometimes pointed out whether it is truly taken within the designated period by or rejected the Immigration Bureau.
  10. How to find the syllabus (For reference)
    • On the website, please change the language from Japanese to English clicking the top button if necessary.

【Important】COE Application Procedures for the 2026 Spring Intake

In order to apply for a "Student Visa" at Japanese Embassies or Consulates, exchange students, except for Japanese Citizens, have to apply for COE first via their host universities or Administrative scrivener's offices in Japan.
For the 2026 Spring Intake, you can apply for your COE through our affiliated Administrative scrivener's office, Support Gyoseishoshi Law Firm Co.Ltd. Once you complete the online application, please email them at Meiji_U@shigyo.co.jp including the following information, follow their instructions stated in their reply, and complete the COE application procedures by October 3rd (For university-wide Exchange Students).

・Your Name
・Your e-mail Address
・Name of your home university
・Statement expressing that you would like to request for their COE application Support.

Additionally, we hope you can prepare one of the following financial documents that prove your financial soundness in advance so that you can submit your CoE application and other required documents in plenty of time. 
  • A bank balance certificate or copy of the applicant's account bankbook
  • A bank balance certificate or copy of the bankbook for the bank account of the person responsible for payment
  • An income certificate of the person responsible for payment
  • Certificate of scholarship funds received (Disbursement period must correspond to duration of study abroad at Meiji.)
 ※The amount of the bank balance, your financial supporter's annual income in the 2024 Fiscal year, or the scholarship you will make sure to receive during your mobility must be more than 1,440,000JPY for year-long students or 720,000JPY for semester-long students.

Students who would like to participate in Meiji University Exchange Student Program need to be approved by Meiji University's partner institutions.

To apply for the program, please consult exchange study program coordinator at your home university.

For students who are attending non partner institutions of Meiji University and would like to study at Meiji University for one semester or one year, please refer to Non-Degree Student Program.
