MEXT Scholarship program (Embassy Recommendation)

 Application procedure for the academic year 2024 is as follows. (Updated on May 27th, 2023)

1. Application Procedure and Selection Schedule

Please follow the instruction by the Japanese Diplomatic Missions in your country.

【Important Notes】
When you are enrolled in Meiji University, your primary status will be non-degree (research) student.
In order to enroll in a regular course (Master / Doctoral / Professional degree), it is necessary to take an entrance examination of your desired graduate school after your arrival and pass the exam during the designated period by MEXT.

Degree Programs in Enlish are offered by some of our graduate schools.
Please find information here.
Japanese proficiency is required for majors other than these programs with some exceptions in doctoral courses.
 

2. To apply for “Letter of Acceptance” from Meiji Univ.

If you would like to have “Letter of Acceptance” from our university, please send us the documents below by E-MAIL no later than August 25th, 2023 in Japan time, after you pass the primary selection by Japanese Diplomatic Missions in your country.

Documents 1 to 3 are mandatory for any applicant.
(1)Application form for 'Letter of Acceptance' from Meiji on MEXT Scholarship Program
  (Please download from here)

(2)Photocopies of the Passing Certificate of the First Screening issued by the Japanese diplomatic mission

(3)Photocopies of all the documents you submitted to the Japanese diplomatic mission
Please see the information on application documents released on the website of Japanese diplomatic establishment of your country.
All documents must be stamped by the diplomatic mission abroad.
  • MEXT Application form with applicant’s photo attached, in the prescribed form
  • Field of Study and Research Plan, in the prescribed form
  • Academic transcript for all academic year of university attended 
  • Certificate of graduation or degree certificate of the university attended, or certificate of an expected graduation if you are supposed to graduate at the time of application
  • Recommendation letter from the president/dean or the academic adviser at the current or last university attended
  • Medical Certificate
  • Abstracts of theses (Only if submitted to the Japanese diplomatic mission)
  • Certificate of language proficiency (Only if submitted to the Japanese diplomatic mission)
   Japanese:EJU, JLPT, etc. English:TOEIC, TOEFL, IELTS, etc.
  • Recommendation letter from the present employer (Only if submitted to the Japanese diplomatic mission)
  • Photograph(s) showing applcant's own works of art or a digitally recorded media of musical performance (Only if submitted to the Japanese diplomatic mission)
 

【IMPORTANT NOTES】

  • We accept the application by August 25th, 2023 in Japan time. We do not accept any application on and after August 26th, 2023 in Japan time.
  • Please note that it normally takes about a month to reply with the result. More time may be required during the summer vacation from August 1st to September 19th.
  • We will e-mail the result attaching “Letter of Acceptance” to applicant's e-mail address. In case that you are not accepted, we will inform you of the result by e-mail as well.
