Students

Meiji University strives to create an academic environment that promotes diversity, acceptance and unity. Meiji University has created the following programs to facilitate interaction between Japanese and international students and promote international awareness.

International Student Offices (Surugadai, Izumi, Ikuta, Nakano)

The International Student Office (Surugadai) The International Student Office (Surugadai) is located on the 2nd floor of the Global Front Bldg.

The International Student Center maintains branch offices in Izumi, Ikuta and Nakano campuses that are staffed as indicated below. Study abroad information and consultation as well as services and information for international students are available. Students are encouraged to visit often.

The International Lounge is open for international students, exchange students and also students wishing to study abroad or make friends from other countries. The lounges are stocked with a wide variety of useful sources of information such as newspapers, magazines, and pamphlets for international students. It is also a place to relax and get to know other students.
Here, Teaching Assistants (TA) offer Japanese language study support for international students.
Also, two different student organizations, "Campus Mate"  and "MuBO" are active at lounges, holding events regularly, in which international students and Japanese students interact.
Notices about scholarship applications and events are posted on dedicated bulletin boards at the International Student Centers on each campus. For details, please also refer to this page.

Housing Service

Japanese Language Education

The Japanese Language Education Center offers a Japanese Language Program for exchange students (undergraduate and graduate) and students of Professional Graduate Schools.
Meiji University also provides a variety of support services for learning Japanese.

Student Consultation Room

The Student Consultation Room is staffed with professors from each school, clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, lawyers, and in-takers (administrative staff who conduct the initial consultation). They provide consultations to students about various issues they encounter in their student life, including school work, career paths and finding employment, concerns regarding their personalities, mental health, human relationships, economic and monetary issues, and legal issues, to help them find the best solutions.

Campus Harassment Prevention Committee

At Meiji University, we respect students, faculty members, and other involved as a unique individual. We believe that it is critical to provide an environment where every person involved in the University can study, teach, conduct research, and work without stress over any form of harassment or other violation of their human rights and gender discrimination. To prevent all forms of harassment, the Campus Harassment Consultation Office is dealing with incidents of harassment on our campus.

Students Japanese Speech Contest

International Exchange at Meiji Junior High School

There are many events organized to encourage interaction between international and Japanese students. Information regarding these events can be found on our internal LMS "Oh-o!Meiji" or on the bulletin boards near the International Student Offices at each campus. All students are welcome to participate.

The following is just some examples of the events:

Teaching Assistant (TA)

Teaching Assistants (TAs) help international students with their Japanese-language studies including checking reports and assistance with understanding written materials, textbooks. TAs are also willing to help you with any questions or problems in your daily life as an international student. TA consultations are available at the international lounges at each campus every week. The TA schedules are posted on the following university website and the International Student Office Bulletin Boards.

Student Organizations

In Meiji University, there are two student organizations that promote international exchange on campus. If you are expecting cross-cultural experiences or looking for Japanese friends, please check their SNS accounts and join the events.

International Student's Guidebook

This guidebook is for international students from abroad studying at Meiji University and introduces basic information about Meiji University, university procedures, scholarships, etc. In addition to information within the university, essential information to live in Japan such as residential status procedures, medical institutions and consultations for emergencies are also provided.
