高校３年生のCatch a waveの「ジャレまが」をモチーフにしたショートエッセイの第２弾です。英語的にはつたない部分があるかもしれませんが、生徒の生活の一コマを垣間見てください。

  I went to ‘Francfranc’ with my friends after school. ‘Francfranc’ is a shop for women, so we hesitated to enter.  We finally got into the store with courage because my friend definitely wanted to buy a handy fan.  It was extremely girly in the shop and we were out of place.  But after a while, our way of thinking changed.  We thought we should enjoy as we thought being in such a pretty shop was what we could do rarely in the future.  We went deep into the store and had an amazingly good time.  From this experience, I learned that it is fun to try something different from usual.

 One day, I was riding a bike to go to my house.  When I waited at an intersection for the traffic light to turn green, a stranger approached.  Surprisingly, he waved his arms. There were no people without me and him.  I waved my arm to him.  Then, he stuck his hand out of his pocket.  We shook hands at the intersection for a minute.  He was constantly smiling.  I was also smiling though we didn’t know each other.  After that he seemed to be happy.  Finally, he walked towards somewhere.  I passed the intersection.  I wonder who he was.  I will never know who he is.

 

A.Y

  May 11th was my birthday.  To tell the truth, I was expecting a surprise.  So I emptied my desk and locker on the day before.  But my friends said, "I don't any time to prepare a birthday present at all."  I was a little sad. After that, the time passed and it was noon.  At that time, Ｍoe handed me a box . When I opened it, it was a surprise box with lots of photos and decorations.  In addition, seven friends give me a cute cake.  A photo of the face was printed on the pieces of cake.  I was already satisfied.  It's the first time I've had such a happy birthday.  It became a lifetime memory.  I love my friends very much.

 What do you think if the big insect is in your house?  The first day of the examination, it happened.  When I was eating breakfast, my mother screamed behind me.  She was extremely surprised about something.  Then I checked that it was a big centipede!  I was so confused.  I tried to kick it out by using paper.  But the centipede moved under the sofa and hid there.

 One minute later, it appeared from the sofa.  I took a broom and a dustpan to get rid of it.  Through my struggling, I could remove it.  However, I was anxious about whether I could concentrate on the test or not.

 On May 30th, I had a basketball match.  I’m a shooter, but I tend to be nervous in games.  I was worried that I couldn’t score at all.  As I thought, during the first half, my shots were off.  However, during the last half, my three-point shot went through the ring.  Moreover, I hit three-point shots five times! 

  I have practiced mainly shooting for two years.  Considering this, my effort paid off. Our team survived and advanced to the third round.  I was extremely happy.  I 　learned that to continue to make efforts was very important.  I’ll do my best in the next match on June 6th to prove my efforts.

  Is there anything you keep doing? 

  Personally, I retired from the club activities that I had been doing for about five years since junior high school this month.  It was the most memorable five years of my school life.  In fact, there were many times when I had a hard time and wanted to quit.  Still, it’s definitely thanks to my friends that I continued to the end.  If I could start over from junior high school, I would join the same club again to meet my friends.  Certainly, it’s hard to get through one thing, but never quit it in the middle. After it’s over, you’ll surely feel good.

  Mother’s Day is on the second Sunday in May.  How do you spend that day?  I go with my dad to hand over carnations to my mother and my grandmother who lives nearby.

  Surprisingly, it’s my father who takes the initiative.  He thinks of his wife and his mother and chooses flowers carefully.  He is kind.

  However, he is an extremely pitiful man.  It’s because unhappily his birthday is on May 10th, which is close to Mother’s Day and he isn’t celebrated grandly.  He spends Sunday for Mother’s Day, not his birthday, even though he can only see his family on Sunday because he is a business bachelor.

   I feel sorry for him but I’m more attracted to his kindness.  We should be a person who can prioritize others over ourselves.

  One week ago, my smartphone broke.  It was a shock at first, but life without a smartphone was amazingly good.  The good point was that I improved my concentration.  Actually, I was able to concentrate on the class and read a lot of books.  According to the research, it seems that human concentration is extremely reduced just by having a smartphone nearby.  I was no exception.  In addition, I was able to improve myself, such as running, because I never run away from home.  Being even a little away from my smartphone like this  has enriched my life.  So, sometimes it’s important to stay away from your smartphone.
