Reults of Meiji University Students and Alumni Participating in the London 2012 Paralympic Games

Here are the results of Meiji University’s current and former students who took part in the London 2012 Paralympic Games (the fourteenth Summer Paralympic Games).

Athletes

【Swimming】 Rina Akiyama (currently enrolled in the Master’s Program, Graduate School of Law) won a gold medal in the women’s 100-meter backstroke.

 
Rina Akiyama competed in the women’s 100-meter backstroke (S11) and won a gold medal with a time of 1 minute 19.50 seconds, a new Paralympic record. In the women’s 100-meter breaststroke, she finished 7th with a time of 1 minute 36.79 seconds, a new Asian record.

【Wheelchair tennis】 A Japanese player won a gold medal in wheelchair tennis, with Hiromichi Maruyama (a graduate from the School of Arts and Letters in 1992) serving as the coach.

 In wheelchair tennis, Shingo Kunieda won a gold medal in the men’s singles event.
