On September 24th, MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) made an announcement regarding the recipients of funding from the Project for Promotion of Global Human Resource Development (Global 30 Plus). While Global 30 mainly focuses on inbound student mobility, the new grant (Global 30 Plus) aims to encourage Japanese students to study overseas. Meiji University was selected as one of the G30 Plus institutions (Type B). We would like to develop further international educational programs, utilizing this funding.

129 universities applied for this grant. Each applicant was required to submit a proposal that included a 5-year plan for the following: 1) the number of students who will reach target language proficiency; 2) the number of students who will receive academic credits through study abroad; and 3) a target number of students who will fulfill the criteria of Global HR (self defined).

There were two categories in the G30 Plus application. Type A is a comprehensive, university-wide project, and Type B is designed for specific departmental projects. In the end, 11 institutions were selected for Type A, and 31 universities were granted Type B funding. Each Type A institution will receive approximately 140 to 260 million JPY a year, depending on the size of the school’s student body. Type B institutions will receive roughly 120 million JPY a year. Both types of funding are granted for five years.
