Nov. 04, 2016

Takeshi Kitano, a film director, comedian, and Meiji University alumnus (specially certified graduation in 2004) was bestowed with a National Order of the Legion of Honor award by the French government.
The Legion was instituted by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802, for the purpose of commending outstanding achievements in fields including culture, science, industry, commerce, and creative activities.
Kitano was named an “Officer,” which is the fourth rank of the Legion of Honor, in recognition of how the “bold and original works engendered by his creativity comfortably went beyond the limits of art genres, transformed the rules of performing arts, television, film and literature, and had an impact on the contemporary art scene.”
