Performance of “Romeo and Juliet” at Meiji University by a student theatrical troupe from University of Cambridge

Nov. 10, 2016

On September 30, the Pembroke Players, a student theatrical troupe at the United Kingdom’s prestigious University of Cambridge visiting Japan, performed the famous Shakespearian tragedy “Romeo and Juliet” at Liberty Hall on the Surugadai Campus. In advance of this performance, their members led a workshop at Meiji University. The workshop attracted the participation of 16 students, who listened to lectures delivered in English.
Founded in 1955, the Pembroke Players are a distinguished theatrical company whose former members include many famous authors, actors, and comedians. On a stage decorated with neon tube lighting and balloons they brought from the United Kingdom, the young members of the troupe energetically demonstrated their richly emotional and expressive acting skills. The performance was thoroughly enjoyed by not only Meiji University students and teachers as well as members of the general public, but also many international students.
