The Meiji University Athletic Association baseball club defeated the J.F. Oberlin University team in the final game of the 47th Meiji Jingu Baseball Tournament. Their victory in the Tournament was the sixth in all and the first in five years.
In the Meiji Jingu Tournament, representative teams from 11 universities selected from the nationwide membership of the All Japan University Baseball Federation play games in a tournament format. Appearing as the representative of the Tokyo Big 6 University Baseball League, Meiji University defeated Kansai University in the second round by the score of 4 – 1 and Jobu University by that of 3 – 0 in the semifinals, to advance to the final.
The final game was pitched for Meiji University by the team captain Yuya Yanagi (a fourth-year student in the School of Political Science and Economics), who was a first-round pick by the Chunichi Dragons in the Nippon Professional Baseball Draft Meeting held in Tokyo on October 20.
