Meiji University Table Tennis Club members Koki Niwa and Asuka Sakai become champions of all Japan in the Men’s Doubles event

The All Japan Table Tennis Championships (the Emperor’s Cup and Empress’s Cup 2017 All Japan Table Tennis Championships) were held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium (located in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo) over the period January 16 – 22. In the Men’s Doubles event, the team of Koki Niwa (a fourth-year student in the School of Political Science and Economics) and Asuka Sakai (a second-year student in the School of Political Science and Economics) emerged victorious and took the Japanese crown.
The Niwa-Sakai pair also won the Men’s Doubles event in the All-Japan University Table Tennis Championships tournament held in October of last year, and this was therefore their second victory of fiscal 2016.
The Men’s Singles event in the Championships was won by Jun Mizutani, who posted a record-high nine consecutive victories in four years.
