A group led by Wolfgang Tiefensee, Minister of Economics, Science, and Digital Society in the state of Thuringia, Germany, visited the Surugadai Campus on October 3. The members exchanged ideas with Meiji University President Keiichiro Tsuchiya, Vice President (International Affairs) Kosaku Dairokuno, and Meiji University researchers with strong ties to Germany on the subject of more active academic exchange.

The group came to Japan this time for the purpose of strengthening collaboration with companies, universities, research institutes, and other parties in economic and academic fields. Many officials from Friedrich Schiller University Jena, which has concluded an agreement with Meiji University, and other universities in Thuringia also came to Japan. Of particular note is the joint research that has been conducted for many years by Professor Rainer Knauf, Chair of Artificial Intelligence in the Faculty of Computer Science and Automation at the Ilmenau University of Technology, with Associate Professor Yoshitaka Sakurai of the School of Interdisciplinary Mathematical Sciences. On the same day, President Tsuchiya and Professor Knauf signed an agreement concerning academic exchange between the two universities on the foundation laid by this joint research.
