Katsuhiro Matsumoto (a fourth-year student in the School of Political Science and Economics), Juran Mizohata (a second-year student in the School of Political Science and Economics), and Yuya Yajima (a fourth-year student in the School of Commerce) of the Meiji University Athletic Association Swimming Club competed in the 13th Pan Pacific Swimming Championships (held August 9-12 at the Tokyo Tatsumi International Swimming Center) as representatives of Japan. Matsumoto won the bronze medal in three events and Mizohata won the bronze medal in one event, with Yajima putting up a good showing in two events.

Matsumoto won the bronze medal on the first day of the competition in the Men’s 200m freestyle event clocking a good time of 01:45.92. The following day on the 10th, he competed as Team Japan’s anchor in the Men’s 4200m free relay. He overtook Brazil to reach third place, contributing to Team Japan winning the bronze medal.

Further, in the Men’s 4100m free relay held on the 11th, Matsumoto appeared third for Team Japan with Mizohata acting as anchor. The team was able to achieve a Japanese record time of 03:12.54 in the event to win the bronze medal.

Yajima, who competed as Japan’s representative in the butterfly competition, placed sixth in the Men’s 200m butterfly event held on the 10th, and eighth in the Men’s 100m butterfly event held on the 11th, putting up a good showing in both events.
