About Fall Semester Classes

After the outbreak of infections of the new coronavirus in Japan in February 2020, Meiji University had no choice but to conduct classes online. This solution hardly provided students with the vibrant and fulfilling campus life and face-to-face education they had envisioned. We have received many opinions and requests during this period. While there have been calls for refraining from going out or going to school due to the risk of infection, there have also been many calls for the university to provide classes on campus so that students can study with their friends.

Based on these opinions, we will open classes in the Fall Semester, mainly online, while incorporating as many face-to-face classes as possible. In addition to classes, we will also provide opportunities for face-to-face exchange between students and teachers in various forms. Needless to say, when face-to-face classes are held, appropriate measures to prevent infection will be taken. In addition, for students who wish to avoid attending classes in person, students who do not live within commuting distance, and international students who cannot enter Japan, we will enable them to take face-to-face classes online.

Regarding Fall Semester's online classes, we will improve the quality of the experience by dealing with issues that were revealed in the student questionnaire conducted during the Spring Semester. In addition, beginning on August 1, when Spring Semester classes will end, we will again conduct a student questionnaire in order to gather as many student opinions as we can. Using the information provided we will aim to improve the quality of classes further. Also, to allow students to take online classes before and after face-to-face classes on campus, we will provide students with places where they can take online classes on the campus. The Library and PC Classrooms, which opened from June 1, will continue to operate, under certain conditions.

We have also decided to provide 40,000 yen in financial support to all students for the necessary communication and printing costs to enable them to take online classes in the Fall Semester. For details, please visit our website.

Finally, I would like to say that all of our faculty and staff members are united in their efforts to give top priority to the health and safety of our students and their families, and at the same time to fulfill our social responsibilities.

We look forward to your continued understanding and cooperation.
