Classes for the Academic Year 2022 (Second Report)

The basic class management policy at Meiji University is to conduct face-to-face classes in AY 2022. This is on the premise that students attend school and enjoy the experience of learning on campus, brimming with life. Students are encouraged to prepare for the new semester with a view to attending school and taking part in classes in face-to-face classes.

Classes from AY 2022 will not return to the same class management system that existed prior to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, we will develop a new education system making use of our experience of dealing with classes under COVID-19. Specifically, online classes deemed to be educationally effective will be conducted as Media-based classes, regardless of the status of the spread of COVID-19 infection.

If the spread of COVID-19 warrants it and if requested by the national and/or local governments, we will raise the Meiji University Activity Restriction Guidelines level to 2 or higher. This will be done if it is deemed necessary to implement more thorough infection prevention measures, and we will endeavor to ensure the safety of students and teachers by switching to online classes.
We would like to ask for your continued understanding and cooperation so that students, teachers and employees of Meiji University can work together to overcome the COVID-19 infection and move forward.

Activity Restriction Guidelines Class Management Policy (AY 2022)
=======================================================
Depending on the level of the Meiji University Activity Restriction Guidelines (0 to 5), we will develop the class management policy at each level to be prepared for all situations. Classes are planning to be held based on Activity Restriction Guidelines Level 1 throughout AY 2022. Please note that the class management policy at each level has been partially changed from AY 2021 one, and there is a possibility that it will be reviewed in the future based on the status of the spread of COVID-19 infection.
=========================================================

Activity Restriction Guidelines Level 0
All classes will be conducted face-to-face. In addition, online classes deemed to be educationally effective will be conducted as Media-based classes, regardless of the status of the spread of COVID-19 infection.

◎Activity Restriction Guidelines Level 1
After thoroughly implementing measures to prevent infection on campus, all courses will be conducted face-to-face. However, for some subjects, such as those for international students, classes scheduled to be held face-to-face may be switched to an online format. For details, see Oh-o! Meiji Class Web "Syllabus Supplement".
At this level, classes are run on the premise that students will attend school, so please prepare to attend face-to-face classes. However, special consideration may be given to students who have an underlying disease that is likely to become serious due to the COVID-19 infection and who have difficulty in attending school. This also applies to foreign students who intend to but are unable to attend school due to travel restrictions and immigration restrictions. In these cases, online classes will be offered and such students will be allowed to attend classes from home remotely.

Activity Restriction Guidelines Level 2
In principle, we would aim to conduct about 30% of the courses face-to-face. The face-to-face focus would be on classes that require such teaching. The remaining 70% of classes will be conducted online (on-demand type, /real-time type).
Even when face-to-face classes are conducted, online classes will also be available, in parallel, for students who have difficulty attending school because of the COVID-19 infection.
Face-to-face classes will be conducted while implementing through infection preventative measures.

Activity Restriction Guidelines Level 3, 4, 5
All classes will be conducted online.
At this level, in principle, we will take measures to prohibit entry into the campus.

Notes
・Media-based classes (online format) require a personal mobile PC, headset, microphone, etc. Due to the spread of the COVID-19 infection, classes may be switched to an online format for a limited period of time. Therefore, please ensure you have the appropriate facilities for taking online classes at home.

Special consideration system to allow students to study from home
From the Spring Semester 2022 special consideration will be shown to (1) international students who intend to but are unable to attend school due to travel restrictions and immigration restrictions, and (2) students who have difficulty attending school due to an underlying disease that is likely to become severe due to the novel coronavirus. Such students will be allowed to attend classes from home, remotely.
For details, please refer to the Oh-o! Meiji system. New students for AY 2022 who wish to receive special consideration should contact us by March 31.
