[School of Interdisciplinary Mathematical Sciences] HIRANO Reo and Associate Professor WATANABE Keita win the Outstanding Research Award at EC 2023

Nov. 02, 2023

At Entertainment Computing 2023 (EC 2023) held at Tokyo University of Technology’s Hachioji Campus from August 30 to September 2, 2023, HIRANO Reo (4th-year undergraduate student) and Associate Professor WATANABE Keita of the Department of Frontier Media Science in School of Interdisciplinary Mathematical Sciences (WATANABE Keita Laboratory) presented "Proposal of brainwave control training method using onomatopoeia in mental image-based BCI" and won the Outstanding Research Award, which is given to research recognized as outstanding by the judges, based on a comprehensive evaluation of the paper and oral presentation.

The purpose of this research was to enhance user performance and reduce cognitive load through onomatopoeia-based EEG control training. The usefulness of user training methods in BCI was examined using a multimodal approach of visual imagery and auditory imagery with onomatopoeia.
