SEITAIBASHI Koki (RYU Shiro laboratory), a second year student of the master’s course in Network Design Program, Graduate School of Advanced Mathematical Sciences, won the Best Poster Award at OECC 2023.

The OECC 2023 International Conference is one of the largest international conferences on optical electronics and optical communications in the Asia-Pacific region. This time, in the poster session at the conference, SEITAIBASHI’s paper was selected and awarded as the Best Poster Award.

The winning paper’s title is Carrier-Phase Estimation Techniques for MIMO Optical Wireless Communication Systems. This paper is about the MIMO system in optical wireless communication technology, which has been actively researched and developed worldwide. Research and development on optical wireless communication systems, in which the Internet communication is carried on the light emitted from LED bulbs and received by smartphones and personal computers, has been intensifying worldwide. This paper proposes a symbol-by-symbol phase compensation method for received signals when MIMO technology used in cell phones is applied to optical wireless communication systems, and experimentally proves its effectiveness. Although many papers have been published on the application of the MIMO system to optical wireless communication, the phase of optical signals varies from symbol to symbol, which hinders the reception of accurate data. The result of this paper is the first to solve this problem, and it seems that it was highly evaluated in that respect.
