Professor Jean-Michel Eymeri-Douzans (Université de Toulouse, France), President of the European Group for Public Administration, visited Japan from October 29 to 31 and gave a special lecture at Academy Common, Surugadai Campus.

Professor Eymeri gave a special lecture on the latest political forms in France to students of Meiji University on the themes of “the prospects of France as a Neo-Weberian State” and “the policy advice system in France.”

At the lecture, Professor Eymeri stated as follows: “France is now forced to abandon its top-down approach to policymaking. What France needs is a real cultural shift, embracing the sharing of power with all socio-political forces and stakeholders, positioning the public in an inclusive mini-public experience of participatory democracy and joint policy design.”

Then at Surugadai Campus, Professor Eymeri exchanged views with President UENO Masao, and Professor MINAMOTO Yuriko and Professor KIMURA Shunsuke at the Graduate School of Governance Studies, Professional Graduate School.

President UENO expressed his gratitude for Professor Eymeri’s visit to Meiji University and shared the view of Professor Eymeri, stating, “Université de Toulouse and Meiji University have concluded a cooperation agreement. In these days of globalization, it is important for Europe and Japan to share research results.” Their research exchanges are expected to deepen further in the future.
