The Weight Lifting Club competed in the 70th All-Japan Student Individual Championship held at Habikino Coliseum (Habikino City, Osaka Prefecture) from May 10 to 12, with FUKAMI TaKeru (3rd year, School of Political Science and Economics) winning the 55 kg class.

Weightlifting involves lifting a barbell overhead before standing upright in a single motion for a “snatch” and lifting the barbell to around the collarbone and then overhead for a “clean and jerk” three times each to compete for the highest total weight.

FUKAMI commented with joy: “I’ve had a lot of tough times since I entered Meiji University, but I was able to overcome them thanks to the support of various people such as the general manager, head coach, coaches, seniors, and juniors of the weightlifting club. It was not a perfect match, but I broke my personal best and won the championship with a satisfactory record. We are not satisfied with the current situation and will continue to practice hard as a team in order to achieve the weightlifting club’s goal of finishing third or higher in the intercollegiate team competition.”
