Associate Professor SASAKI Yosuke of the Department of Agriculture, School of Agriculture, won the 2023 (22nd) Japan Prize in Agricultural Sciences, Achievement Award for Young Scientists at the Foundation of agricultural Sciences of Japan. The award honors researchers who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of agricultural science.

Achievement: Establishment of an epidemiological approach to control infectious diseases in livestock

Associate Professor SASAKI has conducted research using various statistical analyses, machine learning models, and other new methods to establish epidemiological approaches to control infectious diseases that inflict severe damage on livestock, including swine epidemic diarrhea, which is prevalent worldwide. As a result of his research efforts, Associate Professor SASAKI established an epidemiological method that can be applied to livestock in general, useful for identifying transmission modes and risk factors of infectious diseases, formulating measures to address outbreaks, and quantifying productivity and economic indicators.

The award ceremony was held on Friday, November 24, 2023 at the Yayoi Auditorium, Faculty of Agriculture, The University of Tokyo.
