The awarding ceremony of the FY 2023 Meiji University Dean, Student Affairs Award, the first of its kind, was held on January 9 in Liberty Hall at Surugadai Campus , where 26 groups and individuals were honored. In FY 2022, the report session was held for groups and individuals of athletic associations who had won intercollegiate and other competitions. This year, the session was held for all students, not only athletes, with the cooperation of the Parents Association.
The awarding ceremony was hosted by the students of the Announcement Study Group and started with a speech by the Dean, Student Affairs, NISHIYAMA Harufumi (professor of the School of Commerce). “I hope that the award will give you confidence and help you gain a wider vision. I am looking forward to seeing your greater success,” NISHIYAMA said.
Following a congratulatory speech by HAGIMURA Takayuki, president of the Parents Association, the award-winning groups and students took the stage one by one to introduce their achievements and give speeches with joy. “I think the experience of winning the championship will be a great weapon with which to fight any difficulties in my life,” said MORI Kenshin (4th year, School of Political Science and Economics), a member of the Judo Club, who won the 90 kg weight division of the Kodokan Cup. USHIODA Shun (3rd year, School of Interdisciplinary Mathematical Sciences), secretary general of the symphony orchestra, said, “On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the orchestra, our long-term contribution to the university was recognized. We will continue our efforts so that the orchestra can celebrate its 200th and even 300th anniversary,” he said.
The ceremony ended with a cheering performance and a school song by the university cheering squad.
