Implementation of FD Training Program for Teaching Classes in English for faculty

May 15, 2025

As part of efforts to promote internationalization of Meiji University, the Headquarters of International Collaboration has implemented a training program for faculty to give lectures on specialized subjects in English. The 4th training program, which was the last training program in fiscal 2024, was held on February 27 with Mr. YOSHINAKA Masakuni of EdulinX Corporation as a lecturer.

In the training, practical methods for teaching classes effectively in English were introduced. It was emphasized that at the beginning of the lesson, carrying out ice breaking as a self-introduction promotes smooth communication. The training covered a wide range of topics, including the importance of being aware of the number of syllables, not the number of words, and maintaining an appropriate speed, when speaking, as well as devising ways to deepen students’ understanding by using plain expressions, and teaching methods to accommodate different levels of English.

In addition, the importance of class management based on differences in cultural backgrounds was also mentioned.

In the practical exercise, participants read out English sentences and measured the speed of each other’s speech. One participant said, “I realized that I spoke faster than I had expected,” which gave them an opportunity to review their speaking speed.

The Headquarters of International Collaboration will continue to provide training to improve the quality of classes in English and promote internationalization.
