A symposium titled “Exploring the Jomon World through Denotame Archaeological Site (Kitamoto City, Saitama)” was held on March 29 at the Global Hall on Surugadai Campus, co-hosted by Meiji University Museum and the Kitamoto City Board of Education, and organized by Meiji University’s Cluster for History of Resource Utilization.

The Denotame Archaeological Site has only recently been designated a National Historic Site, in 2024. At the symposium, OSAWA Yoshiaki, who completed the Graduate School of Law program in 1977 and formerly chaired the Kitamoto City Council, reflected on the site’s past landscape. Professor Emeritus MIYAKOSHI Tetsuo and Professor ABE Yoshiro (School of Arts and Letters, Cluster Head) provided an overview of the site, presented their research on lacquerware, and introduced a student-led plan to create a site guide designed for the general public.

Despite the rain, 83 attendees gathered and listened to the presentations with great interest.
